The Heart of the Sector – Listening to Scotland’s Carers
Across Scotland, thousands of carers turn up each day and night, often without thanks or recognition, to provide vital support to those who need it most. Whether in care homes, supported living, or private residences, these are the people holding our social care system together with empathy, patience, and skill.
But too many are at breaking point.
Carers consistently report exhaustion, stress, and the sense that they’re being pulled in every direction with little support. This is not just about long shifts—it’s about being overlooked. There’s pride in the work, but pride doesn’t pay the bills, and love for the job doesn’t fix a system that leaves carers feeling forgotten.
The Carers Companion exists because carers deserve better. Not just praise during a crisis, but respect and rights every day of the year.
It’s time we truly listened. And more importantly—it’s time we acted.
